We are sad to report the death of one of the UK's most experienced and inspiring senior Iyengar yoga teachers, Genie Hammond, on 26 September. Genie was a great friend of NELIYI, and one of its Honorary Members. She was a very approachable and compassionate teacher, extremely knowledgeable, and hugely supportive of other teachers, who often turned to her for advice. Genie was a long-standing student of BKS Iyengar, and her contribution to the yoga community in London was considerable. She was energetic and delightfully direct in her manner, and will be much missed.

One of BKS Iyengar's first students in the UK, Silvia Prescott, died peacefully at home yesterday, 3 November. Under Mr Iyengar's guidance, she started teaching yoga in the 1970s, and has been a hugely significant influence in the development of Iyengar yoga, especially in London, where she lived and taught. Many yoga teachers - including many in NELIYI - were trained by Silvia, a senior teacher of great experience, whose dedication and knowledge were humbling to witness. Her legacy survives in our own yoga practice and teaching, and in the fond memories we have of Silvia.
The IYI (Maida Vale), where Silvia taught for many years, now has a short website entry with links to an article and photographs of Iyengar, taken by Silvia. http://iyi.org.uk/silvia-prescott/
NELIYI joins yoga students worldwide in sending warm sympathy to Silvia's family and all those who will miss her.

We are very sad to report that one of NELIYI's most long-standing and supportive members, Paul Walker, died yesterday. For some time now, Paul had been exploring life from the perspective of one diagnosed with serious cancers, so his passing was an expected next stage. We know it will still be a shock to many, and a very great loss.
Paul was an inspiring and generous person, a huge delight to know, and significant in the development of yoga in the UK. As well as practising and teaching yoga himself, he founded Yoga Matters (where lots of us get our yoga kit) and worked on committees of NELIYI and of our national organisation. NELIYI was privileged to have had Paul as one of our few Honorary Members.
We send heartfelt sympathy and love to his family and friends.
