This really is big news: NELIYI is starting a weekly class in Crouch End, taught by excellent local teachers. It's on Wednesdays, 12.30-2pm, in the Earl Haig Hall, Elder Avenue, Crouch End, N8 9TH, and is a general class, open to all, costing only £7 for NELIYI members (£6 concessionary rate for NELIYI members on a low income), and £8 for non-members.
Earl Haig Hall is newly (re-)opened as a social club, and has been exceptionally generous to NELIYI in letting us use this lovely old hall.
Our long-standing supporter (and quite possibly best yoga stuff supplier in the world), YogaMatters, has very kindly provided the class with mats and equipment - so all you have to do is turn up ready to practise.
If you are new to yoga, come with an empty stomach, non-restrictive clothing, and be prepared to work in bare feet. If you have been doing yoga for years, you are also welcome - these five teachers have many decades of teaching experience between them.
The first class is on 6th November, taught by Ros Bell. Subsequent classes will be taught by Ros, Nancy Clarke, Fran Nixon, Louise Leonard and Agnieszka Golec de Zavala (not necessarily in that order). If you have any queries about the class, you can email us via the contact button on our homepage, or ask one of these teachers.

Thanks to all who have renewed NELIYI membership (was due on 1st October).
A few days ago, we emailed a reminder renewal notice, and inadvertently sent it to all recent members, instead of just those who had not yet renewed. Apologies for any confusion; if you did pay a second time, Pam will contact you to arrange a refund.
And if you needed reminding, please renew now; you can do this online (via 'Joining NELIYI' tab).

Teachers - if you intended to book for the November Professional Development Day, please note that it is now full, so all you can do is contact the organiser to put your name on the waiting list.
If you are someone who thought you had booked, but have not yet paid, contact Nancy to check that you still have your place (and pay).
And if you have booked and paid, please do attend (or contact Nancy if you can't, to free the place for someone else). Thanks everyone - we're delighted it'll be so well attended.
And to anyone who wanted to attend and can't - remember that November also sees us hosting day workshops with Senior teacher and Moderator, Richard Agar Ward. These workshops will certainly provide valuable devlopmental input for your practice and teaching.

December 14th, 2012 is the date of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar's 94th birthday, and NELIYI wishes him well. We are enormously grateful to have had so many years of wisdom, shared so generously by this wonderful yoga teacher, and we look forward to many more.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GURUJI
With great affection from all your students in the North East London area.

There's always a lot to talk about at a NELIYI Committee meeting, and this one seemed particularly animated (in a good way!). There were sad bits, like saying thank you and farewell to outgoing Workshops organiser, Sally Lee - and happy bits, like welcoming Norma Shannon (pictured, taking minutes today) into a role in the NELIYI Secretariat. Sally has for a long time done a fantastic job of keeping NELIYI's great workshop programme going, but is now leaving the committee, and handing over to Judith Simo. Judith really hit the ground running when she joined the NELIYI Committee and took on workshop bookings; now she has broadened her role to cover the overall co-ordination of our workshop programme.
We spent a fair amount of time on the subject of workshops, planning for 2013 and beyond. We've managed to keep NELIYI workshop prices down for many years, but our costs have risen significantly in that time, so prices will have to rise in the new year. However, NELIYI workshops will still be cheaper than most London yoga events, especially with the discount rate for NELIYI members. Do let Judith know what teachers or aspects of yoga you'd like to see in our programme of workshops (pranayama? beginners' or teachers' workshops? philosophy?), and we'll see what we can do.
Another topic for our meeting was the NELIYI website - this very one. We'd like to develop it, so we welcome your ideas on that. We've been thinking about how it can complement our traditional newsletter, rather than replace it entirely. Our current intention is to send out NELIYI NEWS twice a year (by email for most of our members), and to keep you informed via this website and our facebook page in between.
Now you've read this, if you're thinking you'd have liked to have been part of such an interesting meeting, then we still have a couple of spaces on the committee :-)

Exciting times on the NELIYI Committee - this autumn sees us welcome three new members: Judith Simo, Norma Shannon and Lauren Armistead. Judith has already taken on the role of looking after bookings for our workshop programme, and we'll soon find something for Lauren and Norma to do :-).
We say farewell and thank you to Kate Rathod, who has just left the committee. Kate has helped out in various ways, most recently as organiser of the teachers' Professional Development Days (a role that has now gone to Nancy Clarke).
We intend to set up an area of the website that shows all the members of the NELIYI Committee, so you'll soon learn more about us and what we do. Currently, we're: Sev, Tessa, Nancy, Louise, Ros, Sally, Pam, Judith, Norma and Lauren.
