• Annual General Meeting 2019

    Sunday, 19th May 2019 at 1pm - 2pm
Location: The Iyengar Yoga Studio, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA

This is NELIY's annual general meeting, for all members and for others who are interested in what NELIY does, how it does it, and what it's going to do next. Non-members cannot vote, but are welcome to join in the discussion.

It's also a chance to meet the NELIY committee, and to find out how to get more involved, if you'd like to. There's a bit of routine administration to be done, but nothing burdensome, so we're expecting an enjoyable and sociable meeting, with all business covered in well under an hour.

You don't have to book to attend - just turn up. Members can (optional) send notes of apology for absence to Louise Leonard (Chair), or let us know if you're planning to attend by clicking on the 'Register' button (you won't be charged anything).

  • Workshop with Keiko Onishi

    Sunday, 19th May 2019 at 2:30pm - 5:30pm
Location: The Iyengar Yoga Studio, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA

NELIY is pleased to introduce Keiko Onishi for her first workshop with us. She is a London based teacher, who runs regular classes in Islington and the City. Keiko is a long-term Iyengar yoga practitioner, having started in the 1980's. She says yoga helped to keep her in balance while working full-time in the financial industry.

Keiko is certified to teach Iyengar Yoga at Intermediate Junior level III (since 2013), and continues to train in London and by visiting Pune, which she has done regularly since 2015. Keiko says, "I really like to share the benefits of yoga, whatever limitations we may have."
We very much look forward to her workshop.

As usual, book securely online here; just click on 'Buy tickets'.

  • Workshop with Amaparo Rodriguez

    Sunday, 22nd September 2019 at 3:30pm - 6:30pm
Location: The Iyengar Yoga Studio, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA

We are very pleased to welcome Amparo Rodriguez to teach us this September.

Amparo was born in Bogota, Colombia and came to Britain in 1974. She started practising and studying Iyengar Yoga in the 1980s and found this method very beneficial, as it emphasises the proper alignment in Yoga asanas. She has studied with Guruji Iyengar and his daughter Geeta in India, Germany, Russia and England.

Amparo holds a teaching certificate at Intermediate Junior Level 3, which includes remedial and pregnancy teaching. She has been training teachers in Mexico, and is an assessor there and in the UK. She teaches weekly classes in West London, including at Iyengar Yoga Maida Vale.

  • Workshop with Mario Argiros

    Saturday, 9th November 2019 at 2pm - 5pm
Location: The Iyengar Yoga Studio, Leicester Road, East Finchley, London N2 9EA

We are please to welcome Marios for another workshop with NELIY.

Marios’ first yoga teachers were Patricia Booth and Jeanne Maslen, who inspired him to take his dedication to Iyengar yoga further and follow the teacher training course at Manchester and District Institute of Iyengar Yoga. As a professional classical musician he found that the concentration, discipline and self-practice needed in music could be applied to yoga in the same way. He qualified in 2002.

He has been a Senior Intermediate Level 3 teacher for several years, and continues to make regular visits to India to study with the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Institute in Pune, and also with Jawahar Bangera and Firooza Ali.

He now divides his time between Hertfordshire and Greece, and combines teaching local classes with giving workshops all over the UK and Europe. He has also taught in the USA.

In 2005 he began teaching yoga courses in Crete, an island that had felt like a second home for over twenty years, and he now spends several months there each summer studying and teaching yoga. He is inspired not only by his teachers, but also by his students, and the power of Iyengar yoga to work with and improve some very challenging conditions.

Yoga was instrumental in his own recovery from a serious car accident a few years ago, and he feels enormous gratitude to have worked with Guruji in the medical classes in Pune. In late 2018 Marios spent several weeks in India, culminating in the Iyengar centenary celebration in Pune where he was very fortunate to experience Geeta Iyengar's last teachings.
