Karen Long is a Junior Intermediate (level 3) teacher who has a popular following in North London. This is a rare opportunity to be taught by her, as she has recently moved to Marseille, France, where she is currently teaching.
She has studied yoga since the 1980s. She was a long-term student of Silvia Prescott who, she says, “always emphasised that we should find a way to be in the poses with less effort and this is something that I know that my regular students hear from me a lot!”
Karen has also studied with Advanced teacher Christian Pisano from Nice, France, since his first trips to London, and her practice is greatly influenced by him; this led her to embark on teaching.
Through her experience of major surgery five years ago, she learned a great deal from another eminent long-term teacher, Mira Mehta, and says, “Yoga has been, and continues to be, a great tool in my life and I hope to encourage others to practise and to benefit from it.”
Karen’s teaching experience is varied. As well as having taught popular beginners’, general and intermediate classes, she has taught kids at a school in Hackney and also many students who retired some time ago. She believes, “That’s the beauty of Iyengar yoga - there is something for everyone."
